Northern Liberties : Intuitive Painting with BeeReallyChanneling

Join us on Saturday, May 18th from 6-8PM for Intuitive Painting with BeeReallyChanneling!

We are honored to host BeeReallyChanneling for this unique experience at our shop. Bee has been leading this workshop many times before at all sorts of locations across NJ & PA and now we’re bringing it to STUMP for the first time!

EVENT DETAILS FROM BEE:

Introducing an Intuitive Painting experience to meet deeper with our inner selves, inner child and each other! In this space together, you’ll be guided through meditation and breath work to calm the nervous system and bring awareness to the body, while next being guided through an intuitive painting experience, where the paint brush will flow onto the canvas.

WHAT IS INTUITIVE PAINTING?

  • Intuitive painting is about letting go of fear or expectations. It’s to allow your painting to evolve based on your heart callings, visions, and play.

  • That includes the happy accidents and the messes! And letting each brush stroke prompt the next based on your own internal guidance - WITHOUT a plan!

Get ready to Express, Relax, and Strengthen connection to your Intuition and Release!

WORKSHOP OFFERINGS INCLUDE:

  • ️Meditation

  • ️11x14 canvas and paints

  • ️Guided painting experience

  • ️Goodie Bag

  • ️House made Tea

Now at first glance, you might ask - How is this “Intuitive Painting” supposed to BENEFIT ME? and how is it different from “regular” painting️

Here are some MAJOR benefits from this practice & the why:

  • 𝑯𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌: In a very structured & rigid society we get an opportunity to break “rules”, connect with our playful spirit & exercise freedom. We paint how we FEEL, using what we want - brushes, fingers OR flowers

  • 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: In this practice, there is no “end goal” or “preconcieved” ideas! We listen to our internal callings for color, style, patterns & method of application.

  • 𝑯𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒅𝒚: As we listen & feel into what’s going on inside, we expand our awareness to the things we may normally ignore

  • 𝑾𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝑮𝑹𝑨𝑪𝑬: There are no mistakes in intuitive painting. No rules. No standards or expectations to meet. We learn to love whatever comes up as an expression of self

  • 𝑾𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆: while emotions, energy, & experience can get caught in the body - this form of expression allows us to 𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆 those energies from inside to 𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆 of ourselves

  • 𝑾𝒆 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒆: For healing, for friendship, for expression, for self-care, for community, for coping, for FUN, for getting it all out, for truth, for forgiveness, compassion, & love

Grab a friend and enjoy an evening catered to embracing your intuition and inner artist!

Northern Liberties : Artist Shelf Takeover + Make Your Own Tarot Card Workshop w/ Lara Bros

Our goal is to build community by sharing our space through the art and visual projects of our community members in our shops.

Join us on Friday, May 3rd from 5-8 PM in our NoLibs shop for our Artist Shelf Takeover series with Lara Bros!

Come explore and shop Lara’s work—while surrounded by plants—and meet the artist herself.

During her Artist Shelf Takeover, participate in a Make-Your-Own Tarot Card Workshop— led by Lara!

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Lara Bros (she/hers) is a queer visual artist living and working in Philadelphia. Her body of work resides mainly in collage, and occasionally textile arts. Her work focuses on piecing together images and text to convey complex feelings and experiences that often escape description. She explores themes of memory, nostalgia, and how vulnerability (or fear of vulnerability) informs our perspectives, using her own and shared experiences. By piecing together different mediums, she believes that observers are enticed to not just be viewers, and to absorb the telling of these experiences. To not just hold the familiarity of shared experiences, but to participate in the telling and preservation of a story by lending their own perspectives and experiences. Lara practices art in the spirit of abolition, believing that creative practices provide us with the imagination and different modes of thinking that we need to radically re-imagine our society and relationships with one another.

Her current pieces explore elusive practices of spirituality and divinity that have been coded feminine, such as tarot reading and candle magick. Her hope is that the imagery she creates resonates with feelings and experiences that invoke nostalgia or difficult to capture feelings, and encourage different ways of participating with art practices. She has a BA in Art History from Drexel University, and lives in Queen Village with her cat, Fern, and her chosen family.

Bella Vista : Artist Shelf Takeover : Cacie Rosario

Our goal is to build community by sharing our space through art & visual projects of our community members in our shops.

We welcome you to join us Friday October 27th, from 4-7pm for an Artist Shelf Take Over with Philadelphia photographer Cacie Rosario.

About the Artist: My work explores the ways figures, photographs, and the spaces around them can be vessels to examine the nuances of our stories, in both personal and collective narrative. I’m interested in the ways objects, photographs and videos spark memories buried by time, and how we use our personal and historical archives to remember.

Though my practice is primarily lens-based, my pursuit of memory and archive extends to considering and researching the built environment that supports our communities. How do we choose what spaces are preserved, invested in, and revitalized? And how can we use this insight to revisit and re-create better spaces that support their communities?

When I’m not taking photos, I’m printing them in cyanotype, making pottery, eating spicy food, or watching The Office for the 4th (5th, 6th?) time.

See more of Cacie’s photographs on her website.

We welcome you to join us Friday October 20th, from 4-7pm for an Artist Shelf Take Over with Bella Vista local, Marcie Ziskind

About the Artist:

For 13 years, I was the proud owner of the only paint-your-own-pottery studio in Philadelphia, PA, where children and adults were provided with opportunities to explore a variety of art media in a safe, positive and welcoming environment. Wet felting is an art form in which natural fibers are exposed to hot soapy water, and a range of applied pressure transforms the loose fibers into a strong, cohesive fabric. Science and math are required to properly create textiles from loose fibers and to achieve the proper size of each project. I love to embellish my pieces with embroidery and beading to create one-of-a kind garments, jewelry, vessels, and landscapes.

Meet Natalie Avery

At Resist Ceramics I make handmade heirlooms to elevate the everyday rituals of the home. In designing a piece I always aim to create an object that is both beautiful and functional, so each one is made with intention and care. Working out of my home studio, I make wheel-thrown vases, mugs, planters, and bowls. In the past few years I’ve begun to explore atmospheric firing and have fallen in love with the unique surfaces that can be created in a wood-burning salt kiln.

For me, my work is not just a “job”. It’s a representation of what I believe in and who I am.

What does it feel like to hold a piece of my pottery? How do the lines, color and texture affect your everyday?

Pottery is primarily composed of three elements: clay form, glaze and detail. My work is solid, minimal and elegant in shape and form. It is playful yet functional in color and surface. And it is refined and striking with its use of detail.

Bella Vista : Miranda Blas Pop-Up

Our goal is to build community by sharing our space through art & visual projects of our community members in our shops.

Saturday November 26th Miranda Blas will be at STUMP Bella Vista participating in a Pop Up.

About Miranda Blas

Miranda Blas is a Chilean-American artist who works in a variety of media. She has been an artist her entire life and has been involved in arts education for over a decade.

Miranda’s current artistic practice revolves around atmospheric fired ceramics. She creates sculptures and bas-relief covered vases which are then fired in the raku style or in a woodfire noborigama kiln. The volatile confluence of fire, smoke, air, and water that characterizes raku firing is endlessly inspiring, with new surprises coming out of the reduction chamber each time. Miranda aims for harmony between form and surface, between the bright reduction raku colors and the sable dark of carbon trapped in unglazed clay. In the woodfire process she relies on the flames and ash in the kiln to create deep bronzed surfaces. The inspiration for the subject content of her work comes from myriad places. Miranda is constantly inspired by nature, her inner landscape, art history, and feminism. In her depiction of women she aims to subvert the legacy of the male gaze by creating artwork of women, by a woman. She tries to battle misogyny sculpture by sculpture, hoping that her work brings self love and empowerment to the women (or anyone of any gender) who see it.

About Sarah Ryan

HELLO! MY NAME IS SARAH RYAN, AND I’M AN ARTIST BASED OUTSIDE PHILADELPHIA.

My favorite tools are mechanical pencils, watercolor, and gouache, and my work usually features animals, elements of fantasy, and a healthy amount of humor.

I’ve been creating archival prints, notecards, and accessories from my original illustrations under the brand “Sarah Draws Things” since 2012.  This line can be currently be found in shops and galleries in 15 states.

I am heavily influenced by the celebrated Philadelphian illustrators who have come before me, especially the early 20th century artists, the Red Rose Girls: Jessie Wilcox Smith, Violet Oakley, and Elizabeth Shippen Green. Their soft colors and strong lines have inspired my own artistic style and voice.

Bella Vista : Pop-Up Growies Planters

Our goal is to build community by sharing our space through art & visual projects of our community members in our shops.

Sunday October 15th GROWIES PLANTERS will be at STUMP Bella Vista participating in a Pop Up.

About Danielle Lovier

After years of working in the restaurant industry, Danielle quit and started making planters because she couldn’t afford to keep buying them for the plethora of plants she buried herself in during quarantine. With gallons upon gallons of epoxy resin, mortar, cement, concrete, & mica powder Danielle constructs one of a kind planters and propagation stations!

University City : Joanna Birkner Pop-Up

Join us in the shop on Saturday, September 3rd from 2-6 with Joanna Birkner as she sells her pottery and one of a kind planters!

About Joanna Birkner :

Joanna Birkner is a potter making ceramic jewelry, décor and functional tableware in west Philadelphia. With a background in history, she draws inspiration from late 19th and early 20th century material culture, as well as from her time living and working abroad.

Joanna's latest pots are primarily wood-fired, a labor intensive process that produces some of the most unique, unpredictable and breathtaking effects in pottery. Most recently, she participated in a five-day firing of the country's oldest anagama wood kiln-- questions about this process are welcome and encouraged during the pop-up sale!
