Better With Plants | Paris
We believe we are all better with plants.
In this series we share stories of those who also celebrate how plants enhance our spaces, state of mind, and bring us closer to nature.
What was your first houseplant?
My first houseplants were Oxalis. I loved the way they moved everyday, opening and closing. It was as if they were always dancing.
How / what got you into houseplants?
I got into houseplants because of my grammy. She always had random plants around when I was little. She passed away, and they remind me of hjer presence. So it’s like she's always with me.
Why should everyone have a houseplant?
Everyone should have a houseplant because they help generate positivity. They can enhance any little or big space. They make their own presence known without even having to say a word. And honestly, I think that it makes all plants special.
If you took a Buzzfeed quiz which houseplant would it say you are, and why?
If I took a Buzzfeed quiz, I think I would be a cactus lol I'm pretty prickly sometimes.
What has having plants taught you?
Having plants has taught me to be okay with the life and death cycle. When I first started taking care of little succulents, I was really good at it, and they didn't die. I was like "OK GURRRLLLL LET’S GET PLANTING,” and ordered so many off Amazon the next day. They arrived to my house a few days later, and not even a month went by before they were all DEAD. I was mortified to say the least LOL. At that moment, I gave up, threw them out, and continued on with my life. It took me some time to get back into plants. I would look from afar and add some to online carts, but would never make the leap because I thought my green thumb was no longer green.
It wasn't until college when I was able to start up again, and when some of my plants died, it didn't feel as bad. That feeling of sadness was definitely there, but not as strong. This time I was able to keep my plants alive. I built a little shadow box filled with succulents, and then my dog tore apart the arrangement a few weeks later. Talk about being mad!
Now fast forward 7 years...I have a collection of over 100+ succulents and house plants. I guess you can say plants also gave me confidence in myself to never give up!
