Upcycled Terrarium Workshop!

Dive in to a hands-on build-your-own terrarium workshop led by STUMP shopkeeper, Caty where you’ll bring in your favorite terrarium glass or repurposed glassware to craft beautiful, sustainable creations. This class is open to all levels of experience with plants.

Workshop Details:

•   A hands-on class with group instruction to build your own unique terrarium to take home with you

•   You’ll learn about the types of plants that thrive in terrarium environments and how to choose the right combination for your design

•   Each attendee will gather 3-4 ferns and tropical plants of choice and learn to plant their own terrariums with instruction

•   You’ll explore the art of layering: from creating a base of drainage materials to adding soil and decorative elements (feel free to bring in any decorative pieces from home!)

•   Bring your own (clean) glassware from home whether it be a terrarium container, a mason jar, a teapot, a fishbowl, you name it. Ideally, the opening of the glass should be wide enough to easily fit your hand through or we have some tools for smaller openings. A lid is not required for a successful terrarium.

•   Each terrarium will be personalized to what suits your style. As we plant together, we will learn about the light and watering process for our terrariums and conclude the evening knowing how to care for our little ecosystems to help them thrive.

Meet Your Teacher:

•    Caty Leader is a shopkeeper at STUMP Northern Liberties and our plant shop fairy— for just over a year now! She has worked with and cared for plants her entire life, growing up in Philly with a beautiful garden and a green thumb. She’s especially talented at building terrariums, creating tropical and cacti arrangements, and leading a variety of plant workshops with care & enthusiasm. When she’s not helping customers and creating beauty in the shop, she’s looking after Philly’s kitties and is a total cat whisperer.
