Better With Plants | Kim & Isaac
Which plant is your favorite plant in your collection and why?
Either my Aloe or my pencil cactus. I guess the Aloe. It was my first plant, and it has been repotted two different times. I love watching it grow, and it looks minimal and simple.
Which planter is your favorite planter in your collection and why?
Kim’s large vintage white jar with light blue text on it. The white looks great with the thin stems of my cactus.
Any advice for new plant owners?
When you move homes or apartments, don’t think about things like crime and good schools. Think about transferring your plants. If you have a ton of cacti, you are not going to be able to move into an apartment with only north-facing windows. Trust me, that was a big factor on where I lived.
Which of your plants is the most difficult to care for and why?
Our Rubber tree. I can’t seem to figure it out—it keeps dropping leaves.
Favorite plant memory?
Seeing a cactus I had grow a long stem and flower. It only lasted a day.
What’s your favorite story about a plant in your collection?
Not a favorite, but the only real story I have about my plants—I had my rubber tree outside for 2 minutes when moving apartments in frigid temperatures and the whole tree turned brown and shriveled up. I had to throw it out. So, another lesson: don’t have plants outside in the cold even for the shortest amount of time.
What are your favorite types of plants, and why?
Cacti. I like the minimal look. There are a variety of types, and they are easy to care for.
What does your plant care routine look like?
I’m watering something every weekend. I don’t clean the leaves of my plants, but I need to start.
Why should everyone have a houseplant?
It’s therapeutic for me… I don’t have kids, so these are my children.
What has having plants taught you?
When decorating a home, don’t paint crazy colors or accent walls. Accent with plants.
If you took a Buzzfeed quiz- which houseplant would it say you are, and why? Or if you had to choose a plant to represent you, which would it be?
ZZ plant. I’m low maintenance.
