Our goal is to build community by sharing our space through art & visual projects of our community members in our shops.
Join us Friday September 27th from 4-8 PM and meet Gay Poet Beau during our Artist Shelf Takeover Series.
Each artwork is printed double-sided on 6x8 inch Italian- made paper with the drawing on one side and the paired poem on the back.
I’m a poet, artist, & architect in Savannah. I call myself gay poet beau since I spent the first 22 years of my life dimming my light—afraid of who I was & who I could become.
Now I unapologetically claim & celebrate this queerer part of me. Creating poetry & art helped me explore my feelings & eventually find the courage to embrace my truth.
My poetry & art explore themes of connection to nature, budding self acceptance, embracing authentic identity, & documenting queer struggles & joy.
Each artwork is inspired by a poem I wrote & watercolored to connect with the theme/heart of each writing.
The interwovenness of queerness & nature resonates deeply with my own journey toward self-discovery & eventual acceptance of my gay identity. Through creating poetry & art grounded in natural settings & metaphors, I gained the courage to embrace my truth. My series of watercolor prints & poems illustrates my journey as a closeted kid growing up in the south who blossoms into a proudly out gay man living life in its fullest spectrum.
Expanding on my inspiration from & connectedness to nature, I created a series of watercolor prints & poems that capture the ethereal beauty of southern flowers & the picturesque parks of Savannah.
